Valor Re-opening Procedure


Phase 2


Gyms and fitness facilities are allowed to be open and conduct group classes in phase 2 of the State Reopening Plan. This is going to start Friday, May 22. There are still requirements of social distancing of 6 feet, with a capacity limitation of 1 person per 36 sq/ft of space. There is an allowance for gatherings of up to 15 people that do not meet the definition of social distancing. Our plan is to maintain social distancing throughout the gym, with the exception of allowing small “contact groups” in our contact classes. Each contact group will be a group of 4 people or fewer, and each contact group will remain socially distant from everyone outside of their group. 


We understand that many people may still not feel comfortable coming to the gym and we will continue our current online program until all restrictions are released. We are asking everyone to read and obey our new policy regarding hygiene and infection control, and to sign a new waiver, which is identical to the previous waiver, with the exception of a paragraph regarding possible infections. We are excited to see all of you. The following is the list of things we are doing to be able to follow the current guidelines. 


  1. We will be measuring temperature at the door, without contact. If your temperature is 100.4 or higher you will be refused to enter until you have no fever or symptoms for 72 hours.

  2. We expect everyone to follow the Valor Hygiene and Infection Control Policy. 

  3. If you have been ill, or had close contact with someone ill, or anyone suspected of having Covid-19, do not come to the gym until cleared. (This does not include medical workers that have treated patients using the appropriate precautions.)

  4. No shared items or equipment for now. Borrowed gym gloves and protective equipment will be unavailable for the immediate future. If you are interested in purchasing equipment, we have some available.

  5. Gym equipment must be disinfected after each use, with disinfectant from the spray bottles.

  6. Mask use is recommended while in public, but is not required within Valor. 

  7. We will maintain social distancing of 6 feet in between members at all times outside of classes and within classes that do not require contact. 

  8. Classes that usually have contact and sparring will be allowed to have contact with in small groups of 4 or fewer.

  9. People that wish to refrain from contact will be allowed to do individual conditioning and calisthenics or participate in a fitness class that maintains social distancing for now. 

  10. To help maintain social distancing we are making a temporary change in our regular schedule: Boxing has been moved to 6:30 M-Th. 

  11. All classes will be 50 minutes long. 

  12. We are not allowing any visitors to do classes with contact at this time. Day passes are available for fitness classes and equipment usage only. This does not include our members that use 10 class passes routinely and that regularly do our classes with contact.

  13. Please don’t arrive inside the gym until 5 minutes prior to class and please leave within 5 minutes of class ending. If you wish to socialize with other members we need you to do so outside of Valor for now.

  14. Please don’t congregate around the water fountains or other areas. We recommend bringing your own drink to the gym. 

  15. No spectators in the gym. Parents that are not themselves participating in classes will need to drop kids off and pick them up promptly. Kids that are not participating in class are not allowed in the gym during this time. (An exception will be made for parents and children that are doing consecutive classes, such as kids at 5:30 and parents at 6:30. This will only be allowed as long as the member waiting remains in the cafe area and obeys social distancing.)

  16. We will continue to allow members to lift weights and/or use cardio equipment on their own, while the gym is open, as long as they do not interfere with scheduled classes, privates, etc., and as long as proper social distancing is maintained. 

  17. There will be more detailed instructions delivered to members regarding class details and entry/exit for each specific class.

  18. If your membership is on hold and you would like to resume it now, please contact us and you will be able to resume training now with auto-payments starting in June.

When you arrive for your class please check in with the front desk person. Tell them your name or number so they can check you in and let them check your temperature. While waiting to check in please maintain 6 feet of distance between others. After checking in please proceed to the cubbies and leave any personal stuff you have there, and then proceed directly to your class area and wait at designated spots or spread out appropriately. We will not be doing any of our routine greetings before and after classes that involve contact. When classes are over, please take your stuff and exit promptly, keeping 6 feet of distance at all times. Please do not hang around in the walkway obstructing traffic. Please use hand sanitizer when entering and leaving the gym and as needed while there. Everyone please make sure your personal equipment is cleaned after each use. Below is class specific information.


Fighter Fitness:

Go to a prearranged station or spread out appropriately until your instructor tells you what to do. You may be asked to help disinfect your equipment or area at the end of class or between users. Social distancing should take place at all times except amongst people that live together.


Capoeira: 

Go to a prearranged station or spread out appropriately until your instructor tells you what to do. You may be asked to help disinfect the mats at the end of class or between users. Social distancing should take place at all times except amongst people that live together.


Boxing: 

Go to the boxing area and spread out. The coach will tell you what to do and help you to be arranged in a contact group if you are going to be participating in contact. 


Kickboxing:

Go to the kickboxing area and spread out. The coach will tell you what to do and help you to be arranged in a contact group if you are going to be participating in contact. 


BJJ/Judo(including womens,beginners, executive): 

Go to the mat and pick a square for your group. Everyone in the same group will sit together in the same square. You will stay in that square for the entire class including warm ups, drilling, sparring, etc. We will bow to the instructor before and after class. We will not shake hands or line up. Your only contact will be with your Contact Group. You may be asked to help disinfect the mats at the end of class.


Kids Classes:

Please make sure your kids understand the basic rules of social distancing and how to enter and exit the gym. Parents will not be allowed to stay in the gym to observe classes. Please wait in your vehicle or return to pick them up promptly. All classes are 50 minutes and we expect kids to be picked up within 5 minutes of class ending. For instance, 5:30 classes will end at 6:20 and we expect the kids to be picked up by 6:25. We will be splitting the kids into small groups to minimize the number of people they have exposure to for now. We will try to keep their training partners the same for each class if we can, but we won’t be able to do this all of the time. We understand that some kids will have some difficulty with following the rules and we will be doing our best to keep them in compliance with the current safety restrictions.


Kids Kickboxing:

Go to the cage and spread out. One kid in each corner of the cage. The coach will tell you what to do from there. You will be working in small groups. Please don’t have contact with anyone outside of your assigned group.


Kids BJJ:

Go to the mat and pick and stand inside one of the black squares until the coach provides further instructions. You will be working in small groups. Please don’t have contact with anyone outside of your assigned group. We will bow to the instructor before and after class. We will not shake hands or line up. Your only contact will be with your Contact Group. 


Adult Contact Groups:


The idea behind this is to reduce exposure to people in the gym. This will help us to train safely and to keep us in compliance with the current social distancing guidelines without having to restrict people from classes or limit class sizes. We want everyone to develop a Contact Group. This will be a group of 4 or fewer people that you will be allowed to have close contact with at the gym. The goal is to have no more than 3 other people that you could infect or that could infect you, and to not a let our gym become a possible hotspot for the virus. Ideally, everyone will get training partners grouped up on their own and only train with those people. There will be some issues with things like people taking different classes or having different schedules. Things to keep in mind when forming groups:


  1. People that are on the same schedule. This may be the most important thing for this to work. You need a training partner that can be there when you are there.

  2. People that are good training partners. This could be related to size, or belt level, or people that are better than you and can help you learn, or people that have a similar intensity level in training.

  3. People that you like. You may be with these people quite a bit temporarily.

  4. People that you trust to maintain your level of social distancing. If you are conservative about your exposure you don’t want someone that is not in your group.

  5. If you do more than 1 class, it would be ideal to partner up with others that do the exact classes as you for both or all of the classes.

  6. There will be instances when this doesn’t work and someone will need to be in a group for each class or when someone doesn’t have any available people in their group to train with. In these instances, we will do our best to pair you up with a person or group to train with that day. We will be very strict about limiting personal exposure to only 4 people per class. 

  7. You can pick you’re your groups on your own. If you do not have people in mind you can post on the FB groups with what classes you are taking and times you are available to train and others can offer to train with you.

  8. If that doesn’t work with you the coaches can help you find a group or assign you training partners in class.

  9. It is up to each of you to be your own advocate for decreasing exposure. If you don’t want any risk, continue to avoid the gym and train at home. If you want to come to the gym and maintain strict social distancing, you can join a fitness class or do calisthenics, drilling with the dummy, etc. You can train with a specific person in a group of 2. You can refuse to train with someone that is looking for a partner. You need to make sure you are only getting your desired amount of exposure. If you don’t mind being higher risk, we may ask you train with someone that doesn’t have a partner. Please make sure your coach is aware of your wishes.

  10. Don’t be offended if someone doesn’t want to train with you. People have all sorts of reasons, such as limiting their exposure, schedule, class types, etc. as to why they may not want to include you in their group. Again, if you have any issues with having a training partner talk to your coach or contact us.


How long is this system going to last? I’m not completely sure yet. This may be 2-4 weeks. Maybe longer. Hopefully shorter. We will stop and resume training like pre-Covid days when I feel it is safe from a safety and legal standpoint. Until then I ask you to follow these rules to the best of your abilities.
